The removeable panel is the basic shape of the interior of the hull but about 1 inch smaller on all sides. The "ring" shaped bulkhead that was glassed to the hull is about 1 1/2 inches wide. This leaves about a 1/2 inch overlap that has a gasket seal.

For fastening, I have two small blocks of wood with a lip fastened to the lower part of the access panel. These position the access panel properly. On the top, I have two studs fastened to the ring bulkhead. These go through holes in the access panel. Wing nuts are used to snug the panel up against the gasket. I will replace the wing nuts with plastic knobs to make it easier to get them on and off.
