I am finishing a boat with sections of both redwood and cedar. Some of the redwood splinters so easily that it was hard to make the cove side of strips. When it came to fairing, that was compounded by the redwood being harder to sand (even harder to plane , it splinters) If I used redwood again I would not go with cove and bead strips. Have you tried looking at fence companies for cedar. In the north east they usually have lots of white cedar and I have found western red cedar at Home Depot. addison
