Make sure you get flat-sawn lumber so your strips will have vertical grain. If you start with quarter-sawn lumber, your strips will have horizontal grain and this was a major pain to fair on the Wee Lassie II. Maybe I got my hands on a particularly troublesome batch of wood, but next time I'm going to make sure I start with flat-sawn planks.
