Three valve per cyl and 40 to 1 fuel to air!

: "I bought the masively unpopular Honda Civic 1993 VX model. It gets a real 42 Miles per gallon in the city with the air on. It has gotten a record 54 mpg with the air off at 65 on the freeway. It does 0-60 in well under 10 secounds ( 9.3 is claimed) and the quater mile goes by in the 17's. The top speed that I have managed is 104 when the rev limiter cuts out regardless of gear. ( It does 104 in third fourth or fifth). It cruises at 40 to 1 fuel to air ratio and it has a oil pressure rotated cam that automatically changes the effective cam profile at 2600 rpm. At that rpm, a second intake cam comes into play opening a second intake valve for power.( At under 2,600 the first intake valve is smaller and opens very little, while the second intake valve has an agressive cam that governs its action) The Mixture changes at wide open throttle and the tires are definitely low rolling resistance type. (165-70-13). The rims weigh an unbelievable 9 lbs as opposed to most mags that weigh in at 15 to 20 plus. The wind resistance is minimized and this baby can transport both my kayaks without complaint, even after 130,000 miles. The ox sensor needs regular cleaning, because it needs to be very sensitive. It handles better then my 1971 MGB but of course it is no match for my race prepared 93 Miata with its roll bar, adjustable racing shocks, stiff sway bars and stiff bushings and of course eraser soft gummy tires ( The civic wasn't meant to compete with the likes of that SCCA Porche killing monster). The technology of my VX Civic is just scratching the surface of what is possible.. Honda has discontinued it for lack of interest. My County issued Chrysler Stratus gets 16 mpg the way I drive it, handles less confidently then my Civic and is slower to 6o or 100 to boot. God knows if that thing could ever reach 100 anyway. American cars and others are getting shamefull gas mileage. If someone needs anything bigger then a Chrysler PT Cruiser, then he must have four children or be planning an expedition to Alaska offroad. Or else, he needs it because he is a worker who hauls huge cargo. There are no trips for groceries that require an 8 cyl 5000 pound monster that gets a real life 10 to 12 mpg. Nothing involving kayaks require a huge suv either unless you are hauling six of them. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Garth
