Larry, that looks good. A friend and I are both building Eric Schade's stitch and glue version of the baidarka. We have been mulling over the kind of end-pour that we want to do. For a while we debated using a block of Hoop Pine - _Auraucaria cunninghamii_ (the same material as the marine ply and carvings) as an end block, instead of thickened epoxy. As it turns out, we have good solid fillets in the ends of the two kayaks and the carvings are effectively the end-pour anyway. Saving? Up to a kilogram of thickened expoxy. In a Pygmy kayak, just swapping a block of Paulownia for the epoxy could save you several hundred grams (perhaps a pound) off the weight of your kayak.
: Hi Larry;
: I just did this the other nite so it was fresh in my mind . . . The fillet is
: not as deep as it appears, that's only the top 1/4" or so where my
: carving got away from me. The block was simply carved to fit into the
: stem.
: Best Regards, Spidey
