No, actually, the Inuit believed that it was bad luck to name a kayak. They felt that the kayak was an extension of the builder/paddler, and not a separate vessel, so I'm refraining from giving it a moniker.

I named the Chesapeake, (before I learned of that tradition), as I thought it was bad luck not to name a vessel. I figured it was worse luck to strip a kayak of its name than to have a named one. On the other hand, the Chesapeake doesn't feel like an extension of my body, unlike the Guillemot, so I guess it all works out.
