Why waste the wood by ripping it?

Why bother riping it? Just cut larger holes in the middle forms and string them on the 2 x 10. you may need to splice on a few short sections of 2x4 at each end of the 2x10, as some of the designs have forms near the ends of the boat which are rather small -- but that is not a big deal. A couple of pieces of scrap wood will serve well as gussets over the joint, and you can get things to square up rather easily as you attach those ends.
