Not a belt sander but those flapper wheels for drill motors are handy. They are easy to control and come in several sizes and grits. They work real well in cleaning the rust off that $.50 garage sale plane.

I also have a sanding wheel for the drill press. A small table and you have a handy surface sander. I have seen elaborate setups to oscillate the drum but have not found it necessary.
