: I bought a 10" Craftsman in the mid 70's and have used it sense. I got
: it (new) cheep and currently have a 3/4 hp motor on it. I also use a Freud
: 7 1/4" thin kerf blade on it.

: My main complaint is that it is difficult to move the arbor to steep angles,
: ie, 30 degrees or more, because of the Acme Screw thread they use for the
: adjustment. I've considerd replacing it with another machine but have
: resisted spending the money so far. (Any ideas for improvements are
: welcome.:) )

: Don't know how much money you plan to spend, but you might want to look at
: the Grizzly offerings.

Mine was just about the same set up. 10" cast iron, 30+ years old with 10" Freud thin kerf. The same Acme screw adjustment. Mine gradually drift the tilt angle until I can no longer cut a true 90 degree -- I have to built a wood table on top of the cast iron table with shim to adjust just so that I can cut at right angle. Any other angle, I have to cut a scrap to check first -- a total drag! Reasonlly, I burnt the 15 Amp motor. I check with Sears, the part comes out to 300+$. No way! I thought I could persuade my SO to let me buy a new saw. No luck. I rummaged through the junk recycle center and found a 1/3 hp Mongomery motor. With a new thin kerf blade, I can cut 2x4 spruce if I fed slowly. Anyway, my saw is heavy -- a plus;legs wobbly and hard to move those casters -- no good; motor was noisy (now totally silent) -- a minus; fence wobbles a lot and hard to use -- a definate minus; adjustment -- what adjustment? Will I buy another one? Not unless it is free! Roybi has a fency table that is smooth, cut true, but motor a bit noisy. Grissly, I have not use one yet. Delta Unisaw... Ah if I can get my bonus again this year!
