After reading your post, I went and weighed my 17 Guillemot S.G. that is under construction. Using 1/4" Luan, virtually no fillets, taping all interior seams and glassing the inside of the hull only, I'm at 39 lbs. I still am going to glass the whole exterior. Sounds like you have a feather weight. By the way, I don't bother trying to get a really nice fill coat. Just enough for strength, then slick it out with spar varnish.
