Dennis I'm just finishing up my second stitch & glue boat. Both of them are Pygmy multi-chine designs, but I think my experience will apply to almost any design.
The pygmy design calls for the use of tape to join the deck and the hull for gluing. On both boats this was one of the hardest parts of the construction. This was particularly true in the summer when the glue on the tape loosened as my garage heated up.
One of the major advantages to the stitch method using wires, is the control the wires give you. During the construction process you can loosen or tighten groups of wires to adjust the fit of the panel's. With tape you would not have this kind of adjustment.
If you really have a problem with the stitch holes, then I would recommend you go with stapleless strip construction. It will take longer but you have the potential to end up with a work of art for a boat.
