I followed the instructions in Nick's book, more or less.
1) After completing the deck, including the cockpit cut out, I planed, sanded and faired the entire boat. Then I put in the coaming vertical pieces. 2) Broke the boat apart and fiber glassed the out sides 3) Planed, and sanded the inside halves 4) Fiberglassed the inside 5) As soon as the inside fg was dry (about 12hrs) I put both halves back on the forms so they would hold the shape. I fg'ed both inside and out over just a few day period. 6) More or less, I was working it on weekends. The following weekend I took the deck off, cut the hatches out and built the hatch lips and butt plates. Put it back on forms. 7) Put the two halves together. They went together well but in some areas there was about a 1/16" gap. After taping the inside seams, I filled the gaps with epoxy/saw dust. I used 2" fg tape inside and cut my own bias cut pieces (about 3"wide) for the outside seams. The fg tape edges soat up resin and get pretty thick so I didn't use it on the outside. 8) Built coaming lip. 9)Final epoxy coats. 10)End pours. Someone said their end pours caused the varnish to yellow due to the heat. It does get hot. I used bits of styrofoam as a filler and it melted on the top of the resin. ie: end pour before varnish. 11)Varnish
: I just finished stripping the hull on my kayak. Getting ready to turn it over
: and strip the deck. I'm wondering about the correct sequence of events
: after stripping the deck.
: Here is what I envision: 1. Pull staples and scrape, sand, fill exterior of
: hull and deck.
: 2. Remove hull and bottom from form and scrape, sand, fill interior of hull
: and deck.
: 3. Now, here is where I am not sure about. Do I glass the exterior or
: interior of the hull and deck first? What is the recommended procedure.
: Thanks
