I wonder, too. I put my vents close to the top. I figure that:
1) the kayak won't be upside-down for long
2) when upside-down, there isn't much water in the cockpit, anyway
3) when righted, the cockpit may end up more than 1/2-full in the re-entry process.
4) it's pretty unlikely that a wet-exit will coincide with such a pressure differential, anyway. This is only the second case of a blow-out I've heard of -- the other being a kayak that was mounted upside-down on the roof of a parked car. In the hot sun, even with a white hull, the pressure blew off a Beckson pry-out hatch and broke the windshield.
