The idea of using Gore Tex is a good one, but check the self adhesive patches carefully. The ones I've seen have glue over their entire surface, therefore they don't breathe (regular rip stop nylon patches work just as well on clothing and are cheaper). You'd be better off to take small Gore Tex scraps (or a similar material) and edge glue them around the breather hole. I'd also make them oversize to make sure that they breathe quickly enough; say a 1"-2" diameter patch over a small hole.
