In Response To: Gel coat around hatch (Ed Walshe - Dublin)
I read 'gel coat' more as a descriptive term for how the mixed epoxy is being used, rather than as the usual gelcoat material used as an exterior polyester-resin finish on glass boats. I believe this is what Nick meant. I think the layer on the hatch rim was just to ensure that the glass was saturated on what would become the top of the lip.

: Can anybody tell me why Nicks book says to apply a gel coat around the hatch
: rim prior to applying the layers of cloth... and more to the point, if a
: fellow overlooked this and applied newly-mixed resin, is he likely to have
: a problem !!??!!
: Thanks in advance.
