: Can anybody tell me why Nicks book says to apply a gel coat around the hatch
: rim prior to applying the layers of cloth... and more to the point, if a
: fellow overlooked this and applied newly-mixed resin, is he likely to have
: a problem !!??!!
: Thanks in advance. There are two advantages of allowing the epoxy to start to gell.
1. The gelled epoxy will not flow very deep into the hatch seam.
2. The gelled epoxy will not soak into the FG very well either, this leaves a nice finish in the perpendicular joint of the lip and the edge of the hatch opening.
You can read my disjointed account of my latest experience on my web page. The description is for a recessed lip so that the hatch cover when used with a 1/8" seal is truely flush.
