Hi Brian
can't easily post a pic, but say you were ripping the strips and you have 4 strips in a bundle EXACTLY as they came off the orig board. Look at the very end of the bundle and just slightly splay out the strips so they look like a 'w' when viewed from the end. Then push them flat, and the grain will go up and down up and down, but always be connected at the edges. So if you kept track of your strips and if you used wide original boards, you could get continuous grain up and down(the arrow heads) all across the yak. I think Ross's canoe shows it on the open grain??
But if you're a sub-human like me, just think of what you would do if you had laid up most of your yak and accidentally drove the truck over one of the pcs. The whole yak (or deck) is screwed, - time for the big jump!!
