I took both of my kayaks to last year's Newfound Rendezvous, a 13 hour trip, mostly at 65-70mph and on the heels of hurricane Floyd. I hit some really vicious winds, but the internal bungies worked great keeping the covers in place. I do have an internal tether (a length of lightweight nylon rope) that anchors the cover just in case which I recommend. It's never had a chance to save the cover, but I drive easier knowing it's there.

: Will my underdeck bungies secure my hatches while traveling at 55 MPH into a
: 95 MPH gust of wind from the semi that just past in the oppisite direction
: on a two way road with a 40 MPH crosswind in the middle of nowhere? Or do
: I need to add external straps for peace of mind? I would hate to see what
: everything would look like when I arrive to find the hatch had been
: whipping around at the end of the safety strap for who knows how many
: miles!
