: And one other thing really has me curious abt b&c and normal strip bldg. Say
: you sand a little unevenly in one area or one form is a little too high
: and you fair it down a bit here. Do all the strips look wavy in these
: areas? Because the more you sand, the more the cove edge is removed so the
: strip looks like it is moving sideways so the strips don't look as if they
: are straight??

Probably depends on how repeatably you cut your strips and mill the coves and beads. If you can do as George does and lay the strips so they only need sanding (no planing) then probably not. All the strips in the flatter areas of the kayak (i.e. sides of bow, flat deck or lower hull portions) will have very little removed and 'rounder' parts of the kayak will have relatively more removed, but they should be pretty consistent with respect to their neighboring strips.

Although I hand-beveled my strips, I had similar concerns: if I had a tight but over-beveled edge (tight on the outside but a slight gap is seen inside the hull) would the fairing process result in my gap opening up as I removed wood? In my case, no. I was surprised how little wood was removed in the fairing stage, even with my inconsistent-in-thickness strips which needed a healthy amount of planing and sanding. If I build another stripper, I'll be going with 3/16" or thinner strips rather than 1/4".
