: Sorry for the delay on this. I have been horrendously busy for the past
: several weeks (still am). This is just a scan, not a good photo. Both of
: these are made of multiple laminations of wood veneer and 3.25 oz.
: fiberglass cloth. The top fitting is for deck bungies and the bottom
: fitting is for perimeter deck lines. One leg of the fitting is epoxied
: through the deck and the other to the deck surface. The bungie fitting is
: three layers of cloth sandwiched between 4 layers of veneer and the deck
: line fitting is three layers of veneer and two of cloth.
Looks really good Grant
Greg
: These seem somewhat similar to what Ross posted a while back, but these are
: regular thickness veneer and have the cloth. For the deck bungie fitting I
: wrap the veneer over a 60 degree edge 2 by with the corner radiused. The
: deck line fittings are formed over a 1/4" bead edge strip. Wet the
: veneer in hot water and clamp it over the form until dry. Then glue up.
: All the wood grain goes the same way. Doesn't matter with the cloth. You
: can stand on the blanks, they don't even bend.
: On strip decks, I recess under the fitting about 1/8" to keep the
: fittings low. The bungie fitting sticks up only a bit more than 1/4",
: the deck line fitting a bit less.
: I will be bringing some kayaks with these fittings (S&G, not strippers) to
: the Great Lakes Symposium in Grand Marais, Michigan next weekend. (that's
: one of the reasons I have been so busy)
