I intend to convert my goldeneye into a two-piece so that it can be stored and carried on my boat safely (towing two tied either side of a dinghy works but not in rough weather and I don't want to add ski-rack type gear to the boat). The Goldeneye was built without bulkheads or hatches. My current plan is to cut immediately behind the cockpit, put a bulkhead on each new end, and connect the two with large diameter bolts/wingnuts. I will put a hatch in the aft section to give access to the bulkhead in that section and will leave the forward section alone for the time being. Any words of experience or advice such as materials and thickness of bulkheads, padding between the edges, etc. will be appreciated.
