: Could you give us a brief synopsis of that process??

Okay - rummage, rummage, shuffle, shuffle, scan, scan

Here's the rough steps:

1. Decide where to cut the hull and mark a line all around the outside.

2. Create two bulkheads that match the interior cross section at that location (this guy uses glassed Airex).

3. Clamp the bulheads together and drill a series of holes along the perimeter (looks like about 2 inches in from the edges) that will hold the bolts.

4. Bolt the bulkheads together with washers as spacers to provide enough room between the bulkheads for a hacksaw blade to move freely.

5. Drill a few holes in the hull along the marked line so that when the bulkheads are set in place, you can slip some wire (coat hanger) into the holes between the bulkheads to hold them in place.

6. Fillet the exposed side of each bulkhead to secure it to the hull.

7. Remove the bolts and hacksaw around the marked line, separating the hull (oh, my, that hurts).

8. Reinforce the inside of each bulkhead with a bigger fillet and lots of glass.

9. Fill the gap between the cut hull and the surface of the bulkhead with thickened epoxy. (DO NOT SAND-DOWN THE HULL TO THE LEVEL OF THE BULKHEAD)

10. Re-assemble the pieces using ss bolts.

I think that's about it... except the part about the larch.
