: Depends on the look you want. I think four coats is the minimum when brushed
: on I like five coats of varnish. With each passing coat I think you get a
: richer and more consistent look no matter if I am using a Satin or a gloss

Where can one buy satin spar varnish and have you found it to be as durable as the high gloss? I would think it would be a lot easier on the eyes on a sunny day and it might even look nicer. Are you applying the varnish with foam brushes ?
