As was pointed out to me by paint factory reps years ago, "No wax can ever achieve the surface hardness of modern paints." The reasoning was that you could always buff the paint to a higher luster than any wax application could achieve.

I believed that for 2 years, at which point I got tired of the work it took to keep the paint buffed to a high polish. That's when I switched to silicone waxes. Quick & easy, 1/2 hour application to get visibly the same finish as hours of buffing with a 3M waxless glaze . . .

When you add up the time saved keeping it looking nice in the period between refinishes, the small time spent stripping the wax when you do have to refinish is negligible. Let the purists buff their varnish, while your 'yak looks great every single day of every single year you own it! An added plus is that it will be easier to paddle - - I swear that every time I waxed my airplane or my power boat, I gained 5 knots!
