Not only possible, quite feasible. I did a Tred Avon that way, adding several extra deck beams and stripping a deck for it. I ended up glassing the inside of the deck anyway so the extra beams probably just add weight. It's strong as a tank though!

: out the sheer corners for sheer clamps, and round over the deck/deck edge
