I think Ross hit it on the head -- Nick has higher exposure thru his book and this website. I would recommend looking at the secion on choosing a kayak in Nick's book before looking at what's available. Nick provides a 'grocery list' of features that you might want in a kayak, like maneuverability, tracking, stability, speed, etc. Make a short list of the features that are important to you, then look for a kayak that meets those needs.
And if you like the lines of the Night Heron, how about the Outer Island? It's 18'x21", round/vee'd hull, good tracking, fast -- and beautiful...;-)

: It seems that most builders on this board have chosen the Guillemot model.
: However, the Night Heron has great lines, and Nick states that it is his
: current favorite.
: Just wondering---why do people seem to prefer the Guillemot? If anyone has
: built the Night Heron, what is your opinion (difficulty of building,
: handling, any hands-on comparison to the Guillimot)? Thanks.
