90 degree twist required at water line. Little Auk

I'm stuck! I've stripped all the way to the water line on the Little Auk. It's getting very hard to twist the strips 90 degrees at the bow and stern, then lay flat on the bottom. I asked for half strips from the guy that cut my strips but did not get them. Is there anyway to accomplish this using regular strips?
