The Guillemot design is hard to paddle in a straight line initially but after a while, you get used to it's subtlies and respond accordingly. Ours was the same way...which is why I sat down and designed one...which tracks like it's on a rail, hence the rudder. BTW, congrats on the yak. Look at it this way: 1. you built it 2. it ain't a store bought barge 3. it's unique and all yours 4. it's a skinny boat and few can handle one
