: I have to agree with Ross on the stability and tracking of the Night Heron
: and Guillemot. I also paddled both at the Rendezvous last year. I also
: paddled the Expedition Single there. The Expedition Single tracks
: straighter than the Night Heron, almost to the point of being hard to
: turn.
: The three boats offer an nice example of how small variations on a common
: design theme can produce a different "feel" for each boat.
I agree with Mike and Ross's coments about the Night Heron compared to the Guillemot but I also have paddled all three designs and while I agree with Mike's assessment of strong tracking of the expedition, I didn't find hard to turn at all. I thought it turned easier than most other boats I have paddled. I always use a little edging to turn and the Expedition required very little lean to to turn sharply. Both the Guillemot and Night Heron turned easier but, not that much easier.
You really should paddle the boat design you intend to build.
