I think it could be done for a lot less then 90 lbs. Your right, CLC does not spec glassing the plywood deck, where on the stripped deck I glassed both sides of the deck. I also put three or four coats of epoxy on the deck and hull to give a smooth finish. I made my seats and foot braces out of oak versus pine speced by CLC and also installed some oak rails that I used to unstall seats and foot braces on. I think all this stuff plus big fillets are likely result of my extra wieght. Lauan 1/4" probably isn't alot heavier, but I'm sure it all adds up. I put some photo's of it on the site below.
: Thanks. If I end up with something that's 90 lbs. it's likely to see the same
: amount of water as the old Folbot - basically a few hours a year. If I
: can't have a 2+ seater for 65lbs. or less, I'm not likely to be
: interested. CLC's specs have the mill creek 16.5 at 55lbs. Is lauan that
: much heavier than okoume? I find that hard to believe. Epoxy and glass
: might be culprits, but again, CLC's boats typically don't even call for
: glassing both sides of the hull, and perhaps even neither side of the
: deck, right?
: Thanks again for the info, Chris
