Hey Rehd,

Don't know about warming out the wrinkles, but my "extensive experience" (two boats) leads me to think that the possibility of snags would be too great. I used 6 oz. West System glass on the first--not too many snags while spreading it over a wood workbench to cut to length. Used 3.25 oz. from Raka on the second. The lighter cloth was much more apt to snag and was more difficult to work with all around except for wet-out. Trying to work out the snags was a real hair-puller. Good luck, Tom

: Hi John

: I'm faced with much the same problem with the "8"Ball I'm building
: and also with the canoe I'm getting ready to build. Both boats are being
: glassed, one of Glen-L materials and one from Raka material. Both
: companies sent their glass cloth folded into small squares, and will have
: to be smoothed out. I was going to post this question in a day or two,
: but, since you have done so, I would like to add to your post. My question
: would be to those with much glassing experience and it would be this: What
: would be the effect of unfolding the glass cloth out on the warm driveway,
: in the sun to try to smooth it out? You certainly couldn't use an iron,
: or, if so, on a low setting, it would be more trouble than it's worth.
: But, if the sun will not have any adverse affects on the cloth, then would
: it loosen it up and aid in flattening it out? The cloth for the
: "8"Ball was in about a 5" square bundle, stuffed into a
: baggie and is going to be a real pain if used that way. Any thoughts on
: leaving the cloth in the sun for a short period of time to warm the
: wrinkles out of it??
