: Yikes! Sounds like a hot time your way... Ya know, I mixed up a 4 0z batch of
: epoxy and poured it into a wide plastic container,a saved plastic tub from
: Knudsen's cottage cheese. Yep, that's the SECRET (sssshhh, don't tell
: anyone). Next, I got a huge fluffy handful of fumed silica and plopped it
: into said container. After the cloud settled, and ya might want to ease
: the fluffy stuff into the epoxy, I stirred the mix together. Then I
: plopped the goo tub into a bigger tub of crushed ice and water, and
: liberally smeared the goo where I needed it. I did notice that it set up
: really quickly: 10-15 minutes, and it got to a certain time and suddenly
: got hot quickly, like imagine the temp. curve climbing geometrically... My
: question, what kind of epoxy and what kind of mix ratio of stuff to epoxy?

: BTW, I've spent a busy afternoon applying acres of plastic sheeting over the
: computer and monitor, so you can go ahead and be you usual self, I'm ready
: for that wit o' yours, Cool Guy

Hey Tig

To start with, the epoxy is Glen-L and uses a 5:1 ratio. According to the instruction video they have, it's supposed to be a 1:2:1 mix with Silica, Micro Balloons and epoxy. Since my cups are graduated in one ounce incriments, I have been mixing the epoxy with 5oz. resin and 1oz. hardener and then using 6oz. silica and 6oz. M.B. I was afraid if I put 12oz. of M.B. that I'd never get it mixed and would have a block before I could apply any of it. I'm trying to cool it down before the next try, and I will take your suggestion about using a tray of ice to help slow it up after mixing. I can put the cans in the freezer for about 30 minutes and get it cool enough to work with. I hope. Spidey's Ding-All sounds like it would be just the right epoxy for this heat. But,I have what I have and have to make due with it. I'll just try the different cool-off methods and see what I can get to work.

My wit is about at it's end here, at least for now. A couple of brownies will get me going again. That, I KNOW how to do. Later,
