: I am looking to build a stitch and glue as a wedding gift for my fiance (and
: me too). I am looking at the coho, osprey std and the westlander. We both
: like canoe tripping and we already have built nicks s+g but she is not
: happy with its sustanable speed (I kinda over built it, first time builder
: error). I am 200 lbs and 6' 2" and she is 5' 5" and petite. We
: will mostly paddle in slow rivers and marsh with occasional trips in the
: intercoastal waterway of north carolina. Some trips will be 2-3 days long
: but most will be day trips. The kayak needs to be usable by either of us.
: So my question is, which one will suit us best? I have questioned both
: companys and a few local paddlers with mixed results. Any help would be
: great. Thanks in advance! David and Jenn
try looking athe Merganser 16. I have built one with my SO as her boat. I previously built a Chessie 18 for me. She is 5-6 and 130 and the Merganser fits her well at 16-6 long and 21" wide. It is a greenland style design too. Doesn't fit me well though since Im 6-2 and 200 as I barely fit in the cockpit and have a hard time fitting my thighs under the coaming area.
Tough to make something that is perfect for you both since you are different sized. whatever fits you will swim on her. especially once you pad it out in the hips, thighs, etc.
good luck, Pete czerpak albany, ny
