I am just fitting the flush hatches on my Eric Schade S&G Baidarka. I will use a webbing loop, screwed to the hatch lid, just in from the edge.

The webbing loops will be in keeping with the rest of the deck fittings. The perimeter deck lines and the foredeck bungies are also fixed with webbing loops screwed in place

The hatches are glassed both sides. The seals are 3 millimetre nitrile rubber foam strip on both the lid and the (stacked ply) hatch coaming. Our experience shows that this is not only watertight but airtight under any sea conditions.

: I plan to make flush hatches on my wife's S&G Coho with Leidy Lid under deck
: holddowns. My concern is will I ever be able to pry them open? With the
: flat surface of a S&G and thin cross section of the plywood, I can't
: envision that a finger divot would be very effective. Has anyone had
: success in installing flush hatches on a S&G without any protruding dowels
: or knobs? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

: Thanks,

: Gary B.
