: I haven't seen it mentioned in the 2 books I have on strip building (The
: Strip Built Sea Kayak and Kayakcraft)but I was wondering if stain can be
: applied to the wood prior to glassing and finishing? I'm a
: pre-construction beginner, so please excuse this if the answer should be
: obvious. Tom Janes
There have been a few threads on this subject both here and on the CLC BBS in the past few months. The general consensus seems to be that it will probably work, but that due to the various brands of epoxy and stains that are available, you should make a test panel to see if there are problems _before_ you stain the whole boat!
In particular, water borne stains seem to get the nod as there is less chance of residual oils in the stain causing problems with the epoxy.
good luck
