I built a Pygmy Coho and found the customer service excellent, but the materials (including resin and cloth) were a little skimpy. But I do love the design and it's a great looking and extremely seaworthy kayak -- really seems to come alive when the water's choppy. BTW, I didn't get the rudder and have never felt the need for one, even on the windiest days.
Tom
: I'm almost done with a CLC WR164, a Highly Skilled, Underpaid & Motivated
: Engineer I know built a Pygmy COHO. Both look great. The scraf joints on
: the CLC's are more difficult to line up and get the surfaces flush, The
: rounded top really looks cool. The Pygmy top is built up seperately and
: then attached... Seems like a lot of work. The CLC comes basic with the
: hatches & bulkheads, Pygmy you buy this as a option. A different
: theory on being water tight I guess, I'd rather stuff me crap thru a hatch
: than climb inside a dry bag. The CLC Hatches are top mounted, while the
: Pygmy are lipped and somewhat Flush mounted. We Both Live in Washington so
: I have to take a lot more crap from the locals for not buying locally and
: supporting the home team but the 8.75% sales tax changed my mind. We both
: ran out of resin and had to buy more.. something to do with mixing up more
: than we needed almost everytime... better to have to much than come up
: short. Another Cool factor is that CLC seem to have the wood splices
: spaced alternating from front to back between the panels while the COHO
: seemed to have all the splices lined up in the back. Spend the extra money
: and get the Rudder option for those windy days. Either way both are Way
: Cool and a Hell of a lot better than being seem paddling around in a
: Tupperware Toy that has a Recycled symbol with a 2 stamped on it. Add the
: options up along with shipping & tax and see how much money the wife
: will let you spend. Also the recommended hours is for actual working time
: not dreaming about it and waiting for the glue to dry.
