On George's page he lists the final weight of his 17' kayak as 30-31# (29.8 plus the varnish.) How many coats this amounts to, I don't know.

: Has anyone actually checked to see how much weight is added to a typical 17
: ft stripper with each additional coat of varnish. It seems like some
: people put on three coats and some people put on a dozen. There has to be
: a point of diminishing returns.UV protection is all we are looking for
