1.) You should avoid breathing acetone fumes and avoid skin contact. I tried vinyl gloves, but they were slowly dissolved by the acetone! Alcohol will dry your skin (so don't try applying it to your sunburn) but it's not dangerous to work with, as far as I know.

2.) Since acetone is used to thin epoxy, I'd be leery of appling it to epoxy that was less than a week old. Alcohol could probably be used earlier, but I would still wait until it was smooth and not tacky.

3.) If not, then why is mouthwash mostly alcohol?

4.) Liberal internal applications of alcohol will soothe almost any pain. You don't listen to much country music, do you? ;-)
