Hi Larry;
That is not the unthinkable - - I feather all my glass before fill coats. If the cloth was properly wet out to start with, additional resin coats will make the cloth invisible again.
If you apply an additional coat of epoxy and can still see the weave, your original glass wetout was too dry. There is nothing that can be done other than to sand it off and start over. There is generally no harm in sanding into earlier glass layups other than the resultant loss in strength if you go too far. Another coat will always make the sanding invisible, no matter how far you sanded, unless the cloth was not properly wet out.
