Aha! Now I know what you are talking about. I saw some of that as well, but with the cloth and/or epoxy I used I have to look very hard and very close to see them, and that is only on the black walnut parts of the deck. When fairing my glass taping I am ruthless about cutting into the layers of tape as needed, especially when I cut the tape more than wide enough for that purpose. I never gave it a second thought. This epoxy I use wets out the cloth instantly, and really makes the feathered edges and surfaces vanish.
I think you're the victim of how the cloth coating and epoxy interact, as I don't think I could glass a boat without total freedom to sand layups as necessary. That's what's supposed to be so cool about bright fiberglassing!
