I'm not sure if this will work if your entire contents are jelling, but it works to prevent the skin of jello that develops on top of the varnish. Set your can on a piece of saran wrap and cut around the can. Drop the saran wrap circle on top of your varnish. The saran wrap is wasy to fish out the next time you open the can, and you should have no jello skin.
