: Hello fellow builders, I have a question on glassing the two halves of the
: hulls, I have faired and sanded my Guillemot Single and just finished
: applying a sealer coat of epoxy to the deck and tommorrow will flip the
: jig over and seal coat the bottom. I have faired the deck and and bottom,
: removed the staples, the bow and the stern are tight together but in the
: middle of the hull, the two halves are 5/16 apart. My question is it safe
: to fibreglass the two halves with this much gap? My concern is when it
: comes time to join the halves together they may not join properly. I am
: also thinking about not putting hatches in this boat, but am wondering if
: this will make it more difficult to join together not having the access. I
: appreciate the help, good building and paddling, Rick

Hi, Rick I helped a friend out this way. It may work for you. 1 Cut a 3/4 inch or thicker plywood form to fit exactly inside where it does not match up (use cardboard for trial and error.) 2 Cut the form in halves or 3 pieces. 3 Reattach the halves by screwing two battens. 4 Fit the form back inside -- make sure the battens facing the opening 5 Use strap clamp on the outside to force the hulk and the deck together directly over the form to prevent crushing the kayak. 6 Tape inside to attach the deck to the hulk-- make sure no epoxy get on the form 7 When cure, break out the form by unscrewing the two halves. 8 Apply a wider tape over the first tape. Let me know if it works on yours. Good luck!
