Dennis, I would suggest applying your coat and leave it alone. I've not used System 3, but the RAKA seems to do better if it's given a chance to level out. Pushing the epoxy around as it thickens only seems to overwork the surface and cause more problems. Even your final coat will still have a few ridges or brush marks, but those can be sanded out in the final, pre-varnish sanding once the coating thickness is built-up. For me it goes like this. Pre-seal if neccessary (RAKA definately). (1)First coat: wet-out with brush on outside and squeege on inside. (2)Fill Coat: squeege prefered, but will probably have to brush some places. (3) Final coat or coats to bury weave: I will use a roller (1/4" nap) watching for ridges. After the third coat I sometimes do a light sanding to get the runs and ridges out. Then a few more light coats with the roller. I find it easier to discover minor problems early, fix them, and then let the last few coats the repairs. Just remember that the epoxy, if left alone and thin enough, will level out. It is normal to see dimples and roughness from a roller as it is applied. Good Luck and don't sweat it. Luckily for all of use epoxy seems pretty forgiving. Just sand smooth and put more on. Mike Worthan
: Would like some pointers for the final fill coat. How does one smooth it. My
: job seems to be "lumpy". Day temps near 90, waiting until
: evening temps fall close to 80 before starting; Using System 3; Humidity ~
: 30-40% Hovered around the boat with foam brush in hand until drag on the
: brush squealed like a scared cat. - Definately past my bedtime. 20 hours
: later the job looks like it will require scrapping and sanding over most
: of the surface. (Coho - in case you are interested.)

: Thanks for the help. Dennis
