Hi Mark,
From your explination it sounds like it took some real abuse. From the pics it doesn't look that bad. I think I would try filling in the glass with epoxy first. You may find that the white does not disappear. If so you will need to patch it. Be careful to stay away from the wood otherwise it will discolor the wood and really show.
