Brian, You hit the nail on the head. Until I installed a Bomber Gear backband and lowered it well below the coaming I had all the problems you mentioned. I no longer lean back like a lounge chair. The backband supports the lower back-hips during each foot push. I can paddle for hours without the back pain I used to endure.
