: I am using cherry strips for my coaming lip. I have had this wood for over
: ten years and I got it from a fellow that had it a while. When I do much
: bending it shatters. I cut the strips 1/16", but they still don't
: work. I suspect that the wood is too dry. What would be the best way to
: rehydrate the strips. I work with cherry daily, it does not like to bend to the radius of a combing.
steaming the cherry or boiling it in a pan (made from a section of aluminum gutter) is a way of explaining to the cherry you would like to do something with it that it does not want to do. And it depends on the grain of the board you cut if it will ever decide to cooperate. good luck and what other wood do you have handy for the combing? BUT you can get it to go where you want it if you try enough times and high pressure steaming in ammonia (DEADLY) will get it to work if you want to build a chamber for it........David Barrett
