I broke five pieces of 1/16" purple hart trying to convince it how good it would look on my Great Auk coaming. Took an hour of steaming, wrapped in a wet towel under an iron set on high, for each of the two bends. DO NOT leave this method unattended. If you have the equipment, go thinner. I have layers in other parts of the kayak that are just 1/42" thick. You do what ya gotta to convince the wood. Happy Bending, Jerry
