Hi Shawn;

Yeh, the GB is not especially designed for rolling . . . I can see where the recess would lower everything, including the layback position, but not really desireable with this docile design. It's kinda designed for other uses (I can't wait to fish from this platform for instance!)

I have mixed emotions about becoming "roll-proficient" here as well, as it is soooo shallow nearly everywhere. We are warned by local kayakers that it's more likely we'll whap our head into an oyster bed and bleed a lot, rather than drown, if we inadvertantly or intentionally roll . . . Don't get me wrong, if we look we can find lots of practice water, but . . .

I was shocked when I owned a small powerboat as to how 99%+ of the local waters would not accomodate an 18" draft . . . If I did not stay within the channel, I was scuffing my prop even with the tilt set to churn surface water . . . If you look at a chart showing West Central FL, you are more likely to see 6" depths as any. One has to go out about 50 miles before you'll find grouper at 50'! 8-) Great for kayaks, not so for powered craft of any real displacement.

Plus, I'm getting too old to do much more than fish . . . [g]

Best Regards, Spidey
