Hi Francis,

If you have access to good quality CAD software, you should be able to input the measurements as Imperial, and have it convert everything to metric.

Perhaps you could ask Nick if he could provide the plans with metric measurements to start with. Depending on how his design system is set up, this might be a pretty easy task. If his design software doesn't 'do' metric, and if he's busy paddling, it might be a bit more expensive! ;)

Use what you know. You'll invaribly run into problems by using an unfamiliar meaurement system. Some US Federal Highway projects are required to be designed in metric. When my company gets those plans, and a contract to built precast bridge beams or culverts, I get the fun job of converting everything to Imperial so the guys in our plant don't have to scratch their heads as much. Fortunately, my computer can solve those pesky conversions for me, which is a luxury the guy "on the end of the shovel" doesn't have. It's really foolish, actually. The US government needs to decide to go metric or stay Imperial, but trying to do both just leads to confusion and expensive mistakes. Don't make those mistakes while building your boat!!

Shawn

: Thanks for all the opinions; I've now placed an order for the Expedition
: Single plans and am looking forward to an extended exercise of converting
: from Imperial to metric measurements!
