Hi Peter, I've never seen any plans for a canvas kayak using hollow ribs, unless you count the Dyson "Baidarka" plans that use aluminum tubing laced togeter, with dacron covering. There is a book called The wood and Canvas Kayak, by George Putz, which results in a hard chined design with frames, stringers and floorboards, and cnavas coverings. Wolfgank Brink also has a book on building a wood canvas kayak using ribs made from willow, or apple or some other flexible wood. This might be really close to what you are looking for. The boat's frame is built using both dimension lumber and other woods which are harvested from sources other than the local Home Depot (i.e., the woods). The book discusses options regarding both framing and skin materials, and you design the kayak around your own body, using various measurements of your personal anatomy. Fairly authentic ('cept for we's a usin' synthetic sealskins) and quite unique, by today's standards. I have the Putz book, and the boats are nice looking. Some of the guys here have built Putz' boats and could give you lots of good advice. good luck, garland
